Virtuous Venison

This was a fantastic project to work on – a collaboration between the University of Exeter, the brilliant animator Ines Skilling, and our team. This short animated film explores how Britain’s deer population exploded, and how Virtuous Venison is turning necessary deer culls into a sustainable solution.

Fallow deer, originally introduced to Britain by the Romans, became extinct post-Roman era and were reintroduced from the eastern Mediterranean around 1000 AD. Initially kept in deer parks for hunting, they later escaped into the wild as these parks declined. Today, their unmanaged populations contribute to overgrazing, harming woodlands and biodiversity. Initiatives like Virtuous Venison collaborate with deer managers and food charities to distribute ethically sourced wild venison, aiming to provide sustainable protein while benefiting both communities and the environment.
