At Preston Street Films we have years of experience creating film and video work for theatre. We have created promotional work in the form of creative or live trailers for shows, onstage projection work, behind the scenes and rehearsal videos and marketing films for theatres. Our team understands the challenges of capturing live performance, working with actors, directors and crew and the strictures of tight budgets and turnaround times.
Quirk Theatre
Quirk make great theatre for all generations. Theatre that inspires, amazes, educates and entertains. They have built up a loyal following of family audience and every year thousands of people come to see their Christmas shows.
We have been working with Quirk since 2015, creating show trailers, onstage video, photography and more. You can see a sample of some of this work below.
Our Man in Havana - Creative Cow
Our Man in Havana. Creative Cow Theatre commissioned this soviet inspired trailer for their production of the Graham Greene classic Our Man in Havana.
The video uses original illustrations by artist Patrick Cullum, animation and stylishly shot live action featuring the cast to give the video a James Bond opening sequence feel.
The Railway Children - Exeter Northcott Theatre
Shot on a very rainy day on the South Devon Railway this is a trailer for a theatrical production of the E. Nesbit classic The Railway Children. It was great fun to shoot as we effectively had our own train for the day and despite the awful weather we managed to get some lovely shots.
The challenge of translating a story into from script to screen is one we relish and for this project it worked beautifully having actors in period costume and in real locations.
Jeremiah - Jack Dean
Jeremiah tells the incredible true story of the much-misunderstood Luddite rebellion – a movement that spanned the whole of northern England and had more British soldiers fighting it than Napoleon. Ever thought about a House of Lords debate staged as a rap battle? Accompanied by a cellist, violinist and guitarist fusing hip hop beats with cinematic orchestration the story is told through the lens of the life of Jeremiah Brandreth, the instigator of the Luddites’ final stand and the last man in British History to be beheaded by axe for High Treason.
It was great fun making this music video style trailer for the excellent Jack Dean to promote his show Jeremiah.
Harold Pinter's Betrayal
Exeter Northcott Theatre
Our relationship with the Northcott Theatre predates the formation of Preston Street Films, with our director Chris making content and TV commercials for them since 2015. More recently we have made a range of films celebrating the heritage of the theatre, highlighting its work with the Kickstarter scheme, interviewing the stars of the show Antigone and setting the stage for the future with a film about the theatre’s new business plan.
