BBC Ideas: Ghost Towns

Imagine if suddenly everything stopped… the homes were suddenly empty and everything was abandoned. What Secrets Can Ghost Towns Tell Us? This was our sixth film for BBC Ideas and our third collaboration with the Open University and it was a fun one to make. Filmed on location at Poltimore House in Devon in the summer of 2021 with the excellent presenter Katy Layton-Jones, it explores the reasons towns are sometimes abandoned, and why these eerie places hold such fascination.
The film was widely shared on its release, clocking up over 100k views in the space of 2 days and the Open University BBC Ideas Playlist has been shortlisted in two categories in the prestigious 2021 Broadcast Digital Awards.
