Educational History Films for BBC Bitesize
In 2023, BBC Bitesize commissioned us to create a series of 29 short documentary films designed to support pupils studying history in Scotland. The project aimed to produce engaging, educational content tailored to the National 4/5 and Higher syllabus, making complex historical concepts accessible and memorable for students.
Our process involved extensive research, scriptwriting, voice-over recording, animation, and collaboration with educational consultant Lindsay Rea. The resulting films cover a broad range of historical topics, including:
- USA, 1918–1968
- Britain and Ireland, 1900–1985
- Migration and empire, 1830–1939
- Atlantic Slave Trade, 1770–1807
- Changing Britain, 1760–1914
- Free at Last? Civil Rights in the USA, 1918-1968
- Making of Modern Britain, 1880 – 1951
- Britain and Ireland
Each film blends original archive material, stock footage, live-action elements, and motion graphics to create a dynamic, visually cohesive series. The use of onscreen text and animated graphics highlights key terms and concepts, ensuring that the content is both engaging and highly effective as a revision resource.
The visuals for each film are combined with a contemporary soundtrack and a relatable Scottish voiceover which makes the overall feel of the films suitable for the target age range.
This collaboration with BBC Bitesize reflects our dedication to crafting high-quality educational content that informs and inspires. Whether it’s documentary films, animated content, or live-action projects, we bring the same level of expertise and creativity to every production.
